Commentary on the radical "田"
Many kanji with the radical "田" are related to fields, farms and cultivation.
e.g.
男 → 田 + 力
The part of "田" symbolizes "the rice field (cultivated land)".
The part of "力" symbolizes a "strong arm".
The two together represent "workers who produce on arable land".
In other words, it means "male".
畑 → 火 + 田
The part of "火" represents "fire".
Together, the two represent "a field cultivated by burning the forest".
Incidentally, this is a uniquely Japanese kanji.
