【大】Ame-kanmuri
Commentary on the radical "大"
Many Kanji with "大" as a radical often represent a human figure.
It can also mean large.
e.g.
太 → 大+ 二
The word "大" means large.
Add "二" to it and it represents even bigger on top of bigger.
It means very, very much.
It also means fat.
夫 → 大+ 一
The part of "大" represents a person.
The part of "一" represents a crown.
People wore crowns in ceremonies to celebrate coming of age in ancient times.
The two together represent a person wearing a crown.
It has the meaning of an adult male.
It also means "husband" in general.
