【聿】Fude-zukuri
Commentary on the radical "聿"
Many kanji with the radical "聿" are related to writing with a brush.
e.g.
肇 → 戸 + 攵 + 聿
The part of "攵" means "to strike."
The part of "戸" means "door."
The two together represented "to strike a door, to open a door."
Later, "聿" was added to mean "to begin writing with a brush."
Today, it is mainly used to mean "to begin."
