【隹】Furu-tori
Commentary on the radical "隹"
Many of the kanji characters in the radical "隹" are related to birds.
e.g.
集 → 隹+ 木
The part of "隹" stands for "bird."
The part of "木" represents a "tree".
The two together represent "birds gathering in a tree and perching on it."
In other words, it means "to gather."
雅 → 牙+ 隹
The part of "牙(ga)" is an onomatopoeic word that describes the cry of a crow.
This means "crow".
The sound also represents the meaning of "elegance, refinement" because of its resemblance to summer (meaning "summer festival").
