How to read

① Onyomi (Chinese reading)

The on-readings are
・にち 　nichi
・じつ　jitsu

For example,
・1日　いちにち　ichi-nichi
It means a day, the first day of the month
・12日　じゅうににち　jū-ni-nichi
It means 12 days, the 12th day of the month
・平日　へいじつ　hē-jitsu
It means weekday

and so on.

② Kunyomi (Japanese reading)

Next is the kun-reading.
It’s read as
・ひ　hi
・び　-bi
・か　ka

For example
・日にち　ひにち　hi-nichi
It means date
・３日　みっか　mikka
It means 3 days, the 3rd day of the month

and so on.

③ Special reading

Next is a special reading.
・一日　ついたち　tsuitachi
It is the first day of the date.

・昨日　きのう　kinō
It means yesterday

・今日　きょう　kyō
It means today

・明日　あす、あした　asu, ashita
It means tommorow
Both mean the same thing, either is acceptable.
These four words are used often and should definitely be memorized.

Next,
・一昨日　おととい　ototoi
It means day before yesterday

・明後日　あさって　asatte
It means day after tommorow
These don't have to be written in kanji.
Hiragana is OK.

Meaning

Next is the meaning of the kanji for "日".
This kanji is used in the next meanings
・day
・the sun
・Japan

Radical

And the radical of this character is 日　nichi.
This character itself is a radical, a basic character.

Family name
