【斤】Ono-zukuri
Commentary on the radical "斤"

斧 → 父 + 斤
The part of "斤" is an image of the shape of an "axe with a curved handle."
The part of "父" symbolizes the shape of "a whip or axe in the hand."

The part of "車" stands for "wheel."
The two together represent "the name of an ancient punishment of running over with a wheel and cutting with an axe."
Today, it is used to mean "to cut with a sword."
