【玉】【王】Tama-hen, Ō-hen
Commentary on the radical "玉" or "王"
Many kanji with the radical "玉 or 王 (Tama-hen, Ō-hen)" are related to various types of jade (or sphere), things made of jade, the state of jade, and the crafting of jade.
The radical "王" is the form when the "玉" becomes a radical "偏 (Hen)".
Nothing to do with the king.
e.g.
珠 → 王 + 朱
The part of "朱" means "beautiful red of the cut of the tree".
The two together represent the meaning of "beautiful sphere" or "pearl".
球 → 王 + 求
The part of "求" means "gathered around a single point".
The two together represent the meaning of "a beautiful sphere that is rounded around a point".
In other words, a "sphere".
