【韋】Nameshi-gawa
Commentary on the radical "韋"
Many of the kanji characters in the radical "韋" are related to leather goods (products).
e.g.
韓 → 倝+ 韋
The character for "倝" represents a long flagpole, meaning "something that sticks out above."
The part of "韋" means "to enclose."
Together, the two meant "well frame" (a wooden frame assembled in a square on top of a well).
It also meant outstanding excellence, and came to be used for "the name of a country (in ancient China)."
Since modern times, it has also been used in "Korea" as a country name.
Today, it is used primarily to mean "Korea."
