Commentary on the radical "廴"
The radical "廴" means to go down a long, extended path.
Many Kanji with "廴" as a radical are related to go, to extend.
e.g.
延 → 廴 + 正
The "正" is reminiscent of "征" and signifies going straight.
The "廴" represents the way.
The two together represent a straight stretch of road.
建 → 廴 + 聿
The part of "聿" means a brush.
The part of "廴" means to extend.
The two together represent a brush that stands tall and sprawling.
From there, it came to mean to build.
