Commentary on the radical "米"

Many kanji with the radical "" are related to various types of rice and grains, their properties, and the food products made from them.

e.g.

粋 → 米 + 卆(卒)

The part of "卆(卒)" means "complete, perfect".
The two together represent "perfectly polished rice".
It was then turned to mean "unmixed".

粉 → 米 + 分

The part of "" means "divide (into)".
The two together represent "crushed rice".
In other words, it means "powder".
