【刂】Rittō【刀】Katana
Commentary on the radical "刂 or 刀"
Many kanji with the radical "刂 or 刀" are often associated with blades and cutting.
The radical "刂" is the form when the "刀(katana/sword)" is placed on the right side of the kanji to form "Tsukuri".
e.g.
切 → 七 + 刀
The "七" represents the "cutting in all directions (vertical and horizontal)."
Since "七" came to represent the meaning of "seven," "刀" was added to distinguish it.
It means "to cut."
判 → 半 + 刂
The part of "半" means "to divide into two parts."
The two together represent "to divide clearly with a sword."
Today, it is used to mean "to judge" or "to divide".
