Commentary on the radical "匚, 匸"

The radicals "" and "" are originally different radicals.
But since today's kanji do not distinguish between them, they are treated as a single radical.

The radical "" is a rectangular or square box shape.
It means a box.

The radical "" represents the path and lid of the slope. And it represents a place where things can be put away.
It means to hide.

e.g.

区(區) → 匚 + 品

The kanji "" is the old form of kanji "".

The part of "" indicates that it is enclosed in a separator.
The part of "" means many objects.
The two together express the meaning of compartmentalizing objects/things.

匠 → 匚 + 斤

The part of "" represents a measure.
The part of "" represents an axe.
Together, the two mean a technician who uses a ruler or an axe.
