Commentary on the radical "麦"
The radical "麦" means wheat.

e.g.
麺 → 麦 + 面
The part of "麦" means wheat.
The part of "面(men)" is reminiscent of the Kanji for "綿(men)means cotton" and represents connection.
The two together represent barley flour that is kneaded and connected into a string-like pattern.
Generally, it means noodles.
